Mutoids are the result of genetic engineering gone wrong. Scientists originally tried to modify human DNA to produce the perfect soldier. Although a percentage of the embryos were exactly as the scientists predicted – strong, fighting machines - the rest had genetic mutations.
Usually destroyed at the early cell stage and before they can develop into foetuses some get through the detection process. The result is a child that is always outcast from society and sent to off-world colonies.
Because they are unable to enter a field of training they often remain uneducated. Most work as guns-for-hire or in the mines.
Both Gabel and his sister Ninamba are Mutoids. Their family history is unclear and neither remember their father.
